Flies can easily travel in different places. It is a great advantage for them to have wings for fast traveling to gather their foods and to lay their eggs with less hassle. It is said that flies can fly with a speed of 7.2 kilometers per hour that makes them difficult to catch and to control their infestation. Like the mosquitoes, they also carry diseases that can be easily transmitted through their mouth and eggs by landing somewhere they wanted to. Flies carry parasites through their body and eggs.
The most common disease that they transmit is cholera, dysentery, and typhoid. These diseases are considered as acute to deadly.
There are plenty of sources to where flies get parasites, viruses and bacteria. Flies go to places which are dirty and to places wherein there is leftover or either rotten foods. They lay their eggs on these foods which become maggots later.
These maggots eat their food and decompose it, it may be leftover food from fast foods or houses and carcasses of dead animals. It is natural for most people to loathe from maggot because of its disgusting appearance and smell.
However, it is very detestable to see a swarm of maggots, which is muddy and excreting their juice. They look creepy, moving maggots which makes you to goosebumps.
The life cycle of the fly is from egg to pupa and lastly, to adult. Their life cycle is almost the same as other insects. Flies can quickly multiply but their lifespan is short which last for just 28 days.
But as we can see, their short lifespan is dominated by its ability to multiply in numbers. This characteristic of them makes them reach even houses and infest it. They ruin homes by which they target foods to eat and also for nourishing their offsprings.
There are people who believe that if flies landed on their food chances are infestation begins so they will immediately throw it in the garbage. This is how fast pest flies infest foods.
So, putting attention on control and extermination is very necessary against these flying insects. These are the tips on how to get rid of flies:
1. Reduce Flies by Proper Sanitation
The smart way to prevent flies to make their move is to clean and provide proper sanitation in your house.
By this way, we cannot just repel them but also diminish their survival rate in a certain area. If a place is clean, the possibility that flies dwell and lay eggs on it is very minimal.
Don’t ever allow to display exposed food in the kitchen, covered it with plastic, the house must not be messy and lastly, must have a fragrant smell to discouraged flies entering your house.
2. Use Traps
We cannot prevent some flies to enter our house especially when you live in a place near in poultry farms or fast foods.
There is a need to lessen or bring down their numbers until zero, to prevent them from damaging your home. Flies can fly very fast that gives them the advantage to be hardly caught.
Therefore, traps are very essential, whether indoor or outdoor type. Outdoor traps are used to prevent flies to enter the house while indoor traps are for killing those that already entered in.
You can use slight pesticide for outdoor, to prevent them to get inside your house, while you can use mechanical or electrical type for indoor traps like electric fly swatter, high voltage ultraviolet fly trap, sticky trap, and many other types to catch and kill the flies.
3. Seal Any Possible Entry
We all know that before flies enter your house is that they need entry holes or cracks. Always close the door and windows of your house.
But if you want the windows open without allowing flies to enter inside, you just need to put plastic or metal screen on it. For some cracks and holes in your house, you can seal it with plastic or a sealant.
For garbage can, you need to always close its lid to prevent the flies to smell the stinking odor and grab the chance to go inside it.
4. Kill The Maggots
To stop the continuous multiplication of flies, you need also to kill the maggots which become an adult fly later, they will produce eggs which become maggot, then their circle of life will be consistent.
No one wants this to happen. Maggots can be found in spoiled foods, garbage cans, and dirty places inside or in the vicinity of your house where there are carcasses of dead animals.
The effective way to kill maggots is to pour a very hot water but be sure that if you do this, assure that they will not escape even one.
